Merry Christmas

I want to take this opportunity to wish all my students and their families a most blessed Christmas and Peace in the New Year. What an awesome concert last evening. You should all be proud of great work.

Language Arts: Not much assigned here but students are to make sure they have completed any assignments from the last week or so because I am completing my grade book and can only enter scores for work turned in to me. Anything not in before Wednesday will not be awarded a grade.

Language Arts: We checked Unit 9 Spelling today and students should be ready for a test on the list words tomorrow.
Also we shared some of their wonderful Christmas poems which we'll finish tomorrow.

Math: Only two groups have to complete their multiplication arrays. Students are to complete page 67 in their text for class on Monday.

CONCERT PRACTICE: STUDENTS MUST PRACTICE INSTRUMENTS FOR THEIR PART IN THE CHRISTMAS CONCERT!!!

Wednesday

Language Arts: Students are to complete a Christmas theme poem using similies for tomorrow. Also if your kids have been looking at you a lot and scribbling down notes its because they had to secretly observe your behavior for a day and graph the results. It is interesting what they have discovered. I'm still waiting for some late work form a few people.

Spelling Unit * is due tomorrow.

Math: Students have just about finished constructing factor rectangles for the numbers one to fifty.

Tuesday

Language Arts: Kids are working on similes. Please have master 15 complete for tomorrow. We will be working on poem with similes tomorrow using a Christmas theme so watch for that coming. Also tomorrow is the absolute last day to get that secret assignment in so please make sure you give it to me in the morning.

Math: We are using a new text resource starting today and there was no assignment tonight.

Social Studies: We will be beginning a new unit in the next few days.

Monday

Language Arts: Some students still have to complete or make revisions to the work that was due today. From the mystery assignment some of you live very interesting lives.
We were able to spend the afternoon today watch a marvelous performance of Hamlet. It was just excellent. Be sure to ask your kids about it.

We'll pick Math up again on Tuesday.

Busy Season

Science

Students will be having their unit test in science on Classroom Chemistry this coming Tuesday, December 13. It will be on all the experiments of seperating substances, physical and chemical changes and reactions as well as acids and bases. Thx. Have a great night!

Thinking Thursday

** Language Arts: For tomorrow students have to complete the graph of their daily activities and their questions from "Apes on the Go"

** Math - Students are to complete the multiplication practice worksheets using the method of their choice for Monday. There are two sheets that will need to be done for Monday. Class time will be provided today.

** Social Studies: Topic A Assessment is to be in at the end of class tomorrow. World in News deadline is approaching.

Anyone wanting a taco in a bag for Mission Mexico next Friday needs to have money and orders in tomorrow. It's also Red and Green day then too.

Way to go on the toy drive as the gathering space is full of generously donated toys and games.

Wacky Wednesday

**Language Arts: Students are to complete a graph of their activity for one day. There is an example of a graph on page 65 of their text book. This due on Friday. For next Monday the students have special secret project that is to be completed. We'll let you know more on Monday. Stay tuned!!


**Math: Students are to complete page 136 for tomorrow using the special strategy we worked on today. Questions or difficulty please contact me. We'll go over this tomorrow to be sure the students have the concept well in hand before we move on.

** Social Studies - Students should have Monday's test home with them. Please have them show it to you.
We are continuing to work on their responses which they will hand in on Friday.

hooray it's warming up and students can spend their breaks outside. Please make sure your child has proper outdoor attire.

*** Language Arts: Spelling Test on Unit 8 today. Below is the assignment for Spelling Unit 9. Students will have class time to work on this so if they take it home it must come to school each day so they have something to work on if class time is provided.

** Math: We corrected page 134 in class today and started working on page 135 which involves two digit multiplying. Please have 135 complete for I gave the kids a couple of strategies for multiplying with two digits. Ask them to show you strategy 3. They can use the example at the top if they want but the table method will show a deeper understanding of the concept.

Marvelous Monday

** Language Arts: We checked our Unit 8 spelling work. Our test on the spelling words is tomorrow. Please study!!

** Math: We corrected homework from Thursday. Please finish page 134 for tomorrow.

** Social Studies - We had a test today on the physical regions of Canada. By the end of class on Friday students should have completed their response to the Topic A Assessment. Students will have lots of class time to work on this during the week so all they should be doing at home with you is maybe giving you a look at what they've done each day. They should also be self evaluating their work according to the rubric as they go.

** Notices - A number of notices went home today. Normally I only send things out Wednesdays but look for newsletters and special notices in the student's backpacks tonight.

Welcome Miss Leite

Hello all. In Band, the kids will be doing playing tests on Thursday. We will have theory handouts and I will call pairs of students up to complete the test. The kids have two weeks notice of a test and we will practice the piece in class. I have been taking kids during our sectional time to work on basic and they seem to be enjoying it. I am very excited about this year. Lets work hard and have a successful year.

Frenzied Friday

** Language Arts - Students did an excellent job of revising and reinventing their shape poems. I'm very impressed with their creativity and how they adapted their work into interesting poems. There are only a few not done so we can stay together please have this completed for Monday.
Reminder about Spelling Unit 8 due on Monday.

*** Social Studies - Test on Canadian regions on Monday. Be sure to look over your information chart to prepare for the test.

Thursday's Thrills

**Language Arts - Shape poems came in to day and students presented them. For the most part they are very creative and well done but some of them need some reworking on the format which we will take care of tomorrow.
It seems I forgot to post the Spelling assignment so here it is:

Wednesday's Work

***Language Arts - Students are to complete their shape poems on construction paper for tomorrow. Please make sure you have a look at what they've done. Students be proud of what you've done and show your work to your family.

*** Math - Please have pages 356 and P360 done for tomorrow's class.

*** Social Studies _ Students should be reviewing for their test next week. See data sheet and notes from Power Point presentations as well as their textbook to review. We started on a new project today that will give students a chance to show what they understand about the different regions of Canada. Again students be sure to show your parents copies of the assignment and the rubric. They can be great source of help to you in completing this. I haven't set a deadline for this yet but we will have lots of classtime and support for the students to get it done. Studying for the test next week is more of a priority right now. I will set a due date for the project next week.

***** Pictures - please note our class picture will be tomorrow and any retakes will be done at this time provided students bring their old package back to school.

Tuesday Stuff

*** Language Arts - Students are to complete a planning web for creating a shape poem. The poem doesn't have to rhyme but must be created in the shape of the whatever the author is written about. Planning sheet must be done for class tomorrow and if they want they can create a rough draft of the poem.

*** Math - Complete P.351 -354 of the homework pamphlet. Please refer to Activity booklet if you encounter difficulty.

Monday Stuff

* Language Arts - no assignment today unless students have decided to revise their bug paragraphs after sharing them today. Parents - Have you been able to identify the bug from your child's description?

* Math - Today we corrected pages 78-94 which were assigned on Thursday. Students have pages 88 and 89 to be done for Tuesday.

* Social Studies - Today the students created questions on their regions. These questions will be used as the basis for a test on the regions to be held next Monday, December 5th.


**** Notice **** Tomorrow is Pajama Day for all students so just roll out of bed and head to school.

Science Quizzes

Just a reminder to study for weekly science quizzes. Each week we add 8-10 words to the list as well as any topics or lab activities we have discussed during the week.

Language Arts - I guess Mr. Harker didn't get as far as I thoght yesterday so student had time today to work on rough copies of their bug paragraphs. A good copy is due on Monday.

Gently used toy drive forms went home tonight as well as picture information.

St. Josephs has a float in tonight's parade.

Arrow orders will go out on Moday so last chance if you want something before Christmas.

Assignments

** Language Arts- Spelling unit 7 test was held today. I gave the kids the work for Unit 8 but they don't have to get started until next week. I will post on Friday. Our ecosystem discussion groups will be presenting the relationships they found between plants and animals tomorrow. They will have a web to show you on Thursday night.
Library class will be moved to Friday so please bring books back for class then.

* Math - Checked P 74-76 assigned page 77 for tomorrow.

* Social Studies - World in News Handed back today and November assignment out. Due Dec. 19th.

Notices

- Picture reduces are rescheduled to Thursday, December 1st.

Assignments

* Language Arts - students are working in groups to see the relationships between people and the plants and animals in the local ecosystem. We had a presentation on winter safety from the people at Safety City during our second class so we'll have to finish that up tomorrow.
******** REMINDER - Spelling work for Unit 7 is due for tomorrow and the test will be on Thursday!

* Math - We took up the test handed back yesterday in class. Students are to complete 74-76 for Wednesday. Please have the tests signed and returned before Friday.

Assignments

* Language Arts- students were returned a number of assignments today which should be properly filed in their Language Arts binders. They may still bring magazines in if they want to for our new unit.

* Math - Math tests from last week were returned to students today. We haven't gone over them yet but they should be able to show you their marks. A quick initial of the test will tell me that they have shown it to you. We will take it up tomorrow so please have them return it to school with them. Pages 70 - 73 in their booklets are due tomorrow.

* Social Studies - We began filling in the chart together today so that all students will have the same information from the power point presentations. A major project is in the works and I will be letting them know about by the end of the week. Look for another World In News before weeks end as well.

Assignments from today

* Language Arts questions " A Forest Ecosystem" should be completed for tomorrow. Students had ample time to finish them in class today so if they brought their books home just a re-read of the selection may be done as a review.
* Math due for Monday pages 65-70. The work involves rounding off decimal numbers and adding and subtracting. The last few pages involve representing numbers with pictures and displaying the operation graphically.
* Social Studies World In News is due tomorrow.


Don't forget about our performance tomorrow morning before recess.

* Language Arts - If students have magazines that they enjoy reading at noon please bring them to school. Our new unit looks at magazine articles and the more samples we have the better our study will be.

* Math - Rounding question P 62-64 for tomorrow please. Students can begin to gather restaurant menus for an activity later in the unit.

We did have time to do some World in News in Social Studies today.

November 15th-18th

*Hope everyone enjoyed the extra long weekend. The weather has been fantastic for this time of year. Not much in the way of homework for Tuesday.

* Grade fives will have a spelling test on Unit 5 that we didn't get to on Thursday.
* The Spelling assignment for Unit 7 will be posted on Tuesday.
* Most of you have finished the LA questions on "Sharing the Alley". We want to talk about them in class on Tuesday so please have them completed.
* World in News is due on Friday. Probably there won't be any more class time before it's due.
* We will be beginning a new Math unit on Tuesday. I should have the exams completed on Thursday back to the kids before the end of the week.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

* Arrow book orders for the grade 5s are due on Tuesday. Please make cheques payable to scholastic.
* December Arrow orders will go home on Wednesday.
* Library books are need for Thursday morning's library class.
