Welcome to Grade Six

Well its been quite a journey for you grade fives. It's truly amazing to see how much you've changed over the last ten months. I've had a great time being you teacher. I'm pleased to see you all on to grade six and look forward to working with you all in the fall.

Unit Test

Weather Unit test date Monday June 19

June 8

Language Arts - Students will be finishing up their games by the end of this week. Hopefully we can have some time to play them Friday. Next Thursday June 15th will be our final Library day. Mrs. Tiffen will need all library materials returned by then. Students will be billed for the replacement of any materials not returned.

Math "Skill Bank" page 196 will need to be finished for Monday. As well worksheets page 99- 102 need ot be done as well. Students have had two class periods to complete this work so there should be very little homework.

Sorry the blog was down at the end of the day so I will post work tomorrow.

May 30

No post yesterday as I was recovering from my marathon on the weekend. Had a great time running in the rain but it was a bit painful yesterday.

Language Arts - Students are working on creating games based on the story we have just finished reading. They may need to borrow household items etc. to use in their game.

Math - Students have to complete page 186 "On Your Own" and "Practise Your Skills" for class tomorrow. I'd also like them to bring a set of dice for doing probability in class tomorrow. They will get them back.

Social Studies - Students are working on Power Point presentations on imported and exported items to and from Canada. These should be ready for presentation soon.

***** Reminder of Penny Carnival and dedication of our Wall of Fame tomorrow. Students should bring money to participate in the events happening in the afternoon. *****

May 23

Language Arts- Students are working through the novel "The Capture". A spelling test on the vocabulary words will be held on Friday.

Math - Students completed a unit test on " Collecting and Analyzing Data". No homework this evening!

Reminder to get Arrow book orders for June in by Friday please. This is our last order for the year and there are some great deals.

Also I think this is the last week for "pennies for patients" fund raiser so if we want that pizza party we have to get in more spare change than those grade fours.

May 17

Language Arts - Students are to finish their sentences from their spelling list and email them to me before class tomorrow.

Math - Complete worksheet page 88 and 89 for class tomorrow. Due to the Mark Mallet retreat for the students tomorrow afternoon the test scheduled for tomorrow will have to be held after the long weekend. Be prepared for the test on Tuesday May 23rd.

Social Studies - World in News is due for class tomorrow.

**** Reminder that tomorrow is library day and students need to return books to school to have them renewed or returned before they can take out more materials.

*****Reminder about the concert tomorrow evening at the church. Tickets are $10.00 and students under 17 are free if accompanied by an adult.

May 15

Language Arts - No assignment today as students will be reading the next two chapters in class tomorrow.

Math - For tomorrow complete the questions on page 175 that we began working on in class today. Reminder of the unit test this Thursday.

Quiz Update

Due to the long weekend our next quiz will be May 29th.

May 11

Language Arts - Students have no assignment but they could review spelling/vocabulary words as well as review the two chapters we read today in class.

Math - for Monday May 15th complete "On Your Own" 1-6 page 169.

Some students need to get some overdue library books back as soon as possible. Our "pennies for patients" has been very successful and wehave a few real entrepenurs who are using theie time and talents to make items for sale. God Bless everyone for thier generousity.

May 9

Language Arts - Students are to complete their vocabulary/spelling lists we worked on today. If they want to make some revisions to their "Soren letter" they can do that tonight because tomorrow involves doing a good/final draft of their letter.

Math - Complete "On Your Own" on page 166 for class tomorrow.

May 5

Lang Arts - students must have completed their first draft of their letter from Soren to his family. Parents please sign your child's work. Students are also to have completed reading to the end of chapter 12 and write at least 3 questions about the story in their journal.

Math - see yesterday's assignment

Quiz Reminder

Quiz Monday May 8th. Study the last of the glossary words.
Note: Now that we have reached the end of the glossary section, random word selections will be made for remaining quizzes before the exam.

May 4

Language Arts - no assignment this evening

Math - due for Monday May 8th. Using the information provided create a set of data that would work for at least 5 of the different types of deer listed on the pages.

Reminder - Pennies for Patients - loose change, etc.

Wednesday May 3

Lang Arts - Complete the assignment of locating five of the spelling words in the novel and copying the sentence that you found the word. Remember to tell what you think the word means in your own words.

Math - complete page 86 for tomorrow
